Team Manager Responsibilities

Team Manager Requirements:

1.). Need to register on USA hockey as a volunteer. https://membership.usahockey.com

2.) Need to complete a background check.  If you did this last year you don't have to do it this year.  A background check is good for 2 years.  https://www.usahockey.com/backgroundscreen

3.). Need to complete the Safesport training as a volunteer. http://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining

4.) Create a Sportsengine account if you don't already have one so that access to the team page can be giving to you. Create Account Here

Bring in a copy or a print out of the receipts for any of these items  and the league will reimburse you.

Team Manager Responsibilities:

Your role is vitally important by ensuring that important team and league information is being conveyed to players, parents, and coaches.  Good communication is key!! 

1.  Be the liaison between team coach and your team. Relay messages, practice or game schedule changes as needed.  It is recommended that a weekly team e-mail be sent reminding everyone of upcoming events such as:

  • Practice times/changes
  • Game times (home and away)
  • Address of away rinks
  • Arrival times for games
  • Home game worker schedule (Squirt level and above).  Example includes:
    • Penalty Boxes: Marino, Montana
    • Music: Hetfield
    • Score Sheet: Counsell
    • Scoreboard: McCarthy
  • Miscellaneous messages such as: “Complete and hand in your signed Code of Conduct Agreements” or “Cleaning night is this Thursday”.

2.  The SHL Registrar will provide the managers with the team binder and with copies of required forms for each skater at the beginning of each season.

3.  For Squirt, Peewee or Bantam teams, please make sure that the roster info on the Shawano Hockey website is up to date with the correct jersey numbers and positions for each player this is needed for the final approval when our WAHA rep comes to approve the rosters.

4.  If you would like a first aid kit to have with you at all games please let a coach or board member know and they can provide you one.

5.  HOME GAMES  Get a score sheet from the shelf in the kitchen and place one roster sticker on each copy (white, pink, yellow copies). Fill in the required fields on the score sheet (team names, date, etc.). Get opposing team roster stickers from the manager or coach and place the stickers on the score sheet copies. Make sure to bring the team binder and first aid kit to all games.

6. AWAY GAMES  Locate the opposing manager or coach and give them 3 SHL roster stickers. Make sure to bring the team binder and first aid kit to all games.

7.  Using the team roster, create a schedule of team families to work the score booth and penalty boxes for home games. Need 5 people: 1 for score sheet, 1 for scoreboard, 1 for music, 2 for penalty boxes.  Assign the first 5 families for the first game, second five families for second game, etc. These duties are mandatory for all families, and they do not count as volunteer hours.

8.  Remind parents before each assigned team cleaning week and be present to make sure all tasks are completed during practice the assigned weeks. Mandatory for all parents.

9.  Plan for the team tournament:

  1. Reserve a block of rooms at a hotel and inform families of the latest date to reserve a room, the address of the hotel, and the address of the rink.
  2. Organize a potluck for one lunch or dinner during the tournament if families agree.
  3. Plan team door decor & treat bags for kids (if desired)

10.  Coordinate team participation in SHL hosted tournaments (invitational, Badger State, state)

  1. Remind parents on your team to sign up for posted jobs during home tournaments.

11.  Arrange for coach recognition gifts (Christmas & season end) if desired by team.

12.  Relay messages as needed between SHL Board of Directors and the team.
